Product Wizard — Builder (Steps, Rules, Result)

You add steps, decide how each option filters or scores products, set up the result screen and its buttons, and try it on your real catalogue with Test.

Where to find: Product Wizards → a wizard → Build tab Who it's for: Anyone who sets up the wizard's questions, branching and result screen In short: You add steps, decide how each option filters or scores products, set up the result screen and its buttons, and try it on your real catalogue with Test.

Screen layout

The builder is full screen and has three columns:

AreaWhat's there
Top bar← (back to list) · wizard name (click to rename) · status badge · tabs (Build, Placement, Analytics, Responses) · save state · Undo / Redo · Preview · Test · Publish
Left — STEPSThe order of steps. Each step lists its options and "→ the step it goes to". Add step at the bottom, Wizard settings at the top.
Centre — previewA live preview coming from your real storefront. Desktop / Mobile and Popover / Inline switches; ‹ 1/8 › to move between steps. Preview / Flow map switches to the map. The diagnostics strip ("3 warnings") is at the bottom.
Right — propertiesSettings of the selected step, or of the wizard when nothing is selected.

Tip: Clicking an option in the preview opens that option in the right panel. The Preview button hides the side panels and enlarges the preview (leave with Back to editing).

Saving: automatic, versioned, undoable

  • Every change is saved automatically after 1.5 seconds. The top bar shows Saving…, Draft saved or Could not save · retry.
  • Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z) cover the last 100 changes. While typing in a field, the shortcuts use that field's own undo.
  • If you edit the same wizard in two tabs, the This wizard changed in another tab dialog appears: Load server version, Save mine or Decide later.

Adding steps and step types

Click Add step on the left and choose a type:

TypeWhat it doesExample
Choice questionSingle- or multiple-choice question. Options can branch, filter products or give points."Who is it for?" → Women / Men / Gift
RangeAsks for a budget, age or size with a slider; can be tied to a price filter."What's your budget?" 1,000–5,000
Free textTakes a short written answer; can be used in the result note and the WhatsApp message."Who is the gift for?"
Contact detailsCollects name, email or phone with explicit consent."How can we reach you?"
Info screenWelcome or in-between screen: title, text, image or video and a button."Welcome — Start"
Pick a productLets the customer choose one of the products matching the answers so far from a searchable list."Choose your frame"
Pick a variantLets the customer choose the variant or personalisation of the chosen product; the product image can change with the choice."Choose your lens colour"

The ⋯ menu of each step offers Duplicate, Make start step and Delete. Reorder steps by dragging the handle (⋮⋮) on the left of a step.

Warning: When you delete a step, transitions pointing to it are also cleared; the dialog tells you how many. You can bring them back with Undo.

General

FieldDescription
Internal nameOnly visible in the panel; to tell apart steps with the same title. If empty, the title is used.
EyebrowThe small text above the title. E.g. "YOUR SCENT WORLD".
Title / DescriptionThe question the customer sees and the text below it.
MediaAn image or MP4 video via Pick from gallery. YouTube and Vimeo are not supported.
PresentationStandard (text first), Media on the side (beside on desktop, on top on mobile), Full-screen video (see "Video step" below).
SkippableThe customer can pass this step with Skip.

A choice question also has Selection type (Single choice / Multiple choice), Minimum selections and Maximum selections.

Options: label, visual, branching and effects

Add options with Add option in the Options tab; click a row to open its details:

FieldDescription
Label / Description lineE.g. "Fresh and citrusy" / "Sea breeze, bergamot, lemon"
VisualNone, Emoji, Icon, Image (from the gallery), Color or Gradient
Highlighted optionLooks different; like a "No test needed" shortcut.
Selected on its ownIn multiple choice, an option such as "Doesn't matter" that clears the other selections.
When selected, go toBranching: the step to go to when this option is selected. With Step default, the step's general transition is used.

Warning: In multiple choice the options' When selected, go to targets are ignored (it's unclear which option should win). Use the rules in the Logic tab for branching in multiple choice.

When this answer is selected (effects)

Each option gets one or more effects (Add effect):

EffectWhat it doesExample
Filter products → RequireOnly products matching the target are recommended."Women" → Category: Women's Perfume
Filter products → ExcludeProducts matching the target are never recommended."Alcohol-free" → exclude Tag: Contains alcohol
Add scoreAdds −10 to +10 points to matching products (0 is not allowed). Decides the order and the match percentage."Floral" → Tag: Floral, +3
Change variableAdds to or Sets a variable (for personality tests)."Camping in nature" → Adventurer +2
Add result noteAdds a sentence to the description on the result screen."We prioritised compact models for home use."

Target types: Products, Categories (with Include subcategories), Brands, Tags, Attribute (e.g. Material = Horn), Price range, Products on sale, Products in stock.

FAQ: What if two options are selected in one step, or two steps have filters? Filters of options selected in the same step are combined with "or" (Women or Unisex). Filters of different steps are combined with "and" (Women and Horn and 1,000–3,000). Exclude filters always apply.

Range step and price

A range step has Value type (Single value / Lower and upper value), Lowest, Highest, Increment, Unit (Currency / No unit / Custom unit) and a starting value. The Use the answer as a price filter effect applies the customer's range as a price filter in the recommendation. The price is the one the customer sees on the product card (with the price list applied, if any).

Look (choice question)

SettingOptions
Option layoutList (row: icon + title + description), Cards (2–4 columns), Image tiles, Color swatches, Chips
ColumnsNumber of columns for cards and image tiles
Auto-advanceFollow the wizard setting / On / Off — in single choice, move to the next step as soon as an option is selected
Show product countsA live count such as "45 products" under every option (together with the answers so far)
Show the price rangeLowest – highest price for that option next to the count
Disable options without productsAn option with a count of 0 is dimmed and cannot be selected

Logic: branching rules

The Logic tab sets up "if these answers were given, go to this step" rules. Rules are tried from top to bottom; the first match wins.

A rule consists of:

  1. Conditions: Selected answer, Range answer, Was answered, Variable, Highest variable, Device (Mobile/Desktop), Customer (Guest/Member). Conditions are combined in AND or OR groups (nested with Add group).
  2. Go to: Next step, A specific step or Go to result.

Selected-answer comparisons: is exactly, is not, any of, all of, none of.

Order in which the next step is decided:

  1. The step's rules (first match)
  2. In single choice, the selected option's When selected, go to target
  3. Default next step
  4. The next (non-result) step in the list

Tip: An AND group without conditions always matches; an OR group without conditions never matches. Rules below an unconditional rule never run; they are shown struck through on the flow map.

Example (decision tree): In "What are you looking for?", the Flavour option's When selected, go to points to the "Flavour recommendations for you" result (a result in one step). Complete set branches to "How do you like to smoke?", Accessory to "Which part do you need?".

Scores and match percentage

In scored wizards (e.g. a scent finder) every option gives points to some products. On the result, products are sorted by their total score.

Match percentage = the product's score ÷ the sum of positive points the customer's selected options could give × 100.

Example: The customer chose "Floral" (+3, Tag: Floral), "Night" (+2, Tag: Evening) and "Romantic" (+2, Tag: Romantic). The possible total is 3 + 2 + 2 = 7. A perfume with all three tags shows 7/7 = 100%; one with only Floral and Romantic shows 5/7 = 71%.

  • To show the percentage, turn on Show the match percentage in the result step. If no option gives positive points, no percentage is shown and diagnostics warn you.
  • With Show "why this product" chips, the answers that brought points (at most 3) are listed under the product: "Floral · Romantic".

Variables and personality tests

Variables collect points based on the answers. In a personality test each "type" is a variable.

  1. Wizard settings → Variables tab → Add variable: Display name (e.g. "Adventurer"), Code name (e.g. adventurer), Starting value (usually 0).
  2. Add a Change variable effect to each option: "Camping in nature" → Adventurer Add 2.
  3. In Wizard settings → Results, set up result rules: condition Highest variable → Adventurer, Compared variables: all four → Go to: "You are an adventurer".
  4. Add one rule and one result step per type; don't forget to pick a Default result.

FAQ: What if two types get the same score? The one that comes first in the Compared variables list wins. The result is always the same; it is never random.

The result step

A result step has a Result tab.

Product recommendations

SettingDescription
Show product recommendationsWhen off, the result screen consists only of text and buttons.
Recommendation modeCalculate from answers · Fixed products · Fixed first, then calculated
Recommendation poolWhich products the recommendation is chosen from. Targets narrow down together; any selection inside one target is enough. An empty pool means all products.
Number of products / Layout / ColumnsAt most 24 products. Layout: Featured (one large card + "N more close matches"), Grid, Carousel, List.
Tie-break orderBest sellers, Newest, Price ascending, Price descending, Manual order
Show the match percentage / Show "why this product" chipsSee "Scores and match percentage" above.
Products in stock onlyOut-of-stock products are not recommended.
When no product fitsRelax the filters (filters are removed from the last answer backwards; the customer sees "No exact match found, here are the closest products."), Show fallback products, Show a message only

Tip: The result screen is never empty; the customer always sees either products or an explanatory message.

Description text

With Show answer notes on, the Add result note effects of the options are joined, in the order of the customer's answers, into one paragraph. The Intro sentence is added at the beginning ("Based on your answers we picked:"). Note texts can use the {{answer:step}} (that step's answer) and {{var:name}} (a variable's value) tokens.

Action buttons (at most 6)

Add them with Add button and reorder by dragging:

ButtonWhat it does
View allOpens a category, brand, tag, search or address. With Automatic (from the result) it goes to the category/brand/tag in the answers.
Get advice on WhatsAppOpens the customer's WhatsApp with a prefilled message. Number: The store WhatsApp number (the WhatsApp floating button in the theme settings) or Another number. Add the Answer summary and Result name tokens to the Prefilled message.
Add all to cartAdds the recommended products without variants to the cart in one click.
Start overRestarts the wizard from the first question (you can label it "Retake the test", "Ask again" etc.).
Custom linkOpens any page or address you choose.
Show discount codeShows the discount code you picked; the customer copies it with Copy code.

Warning (discount code): The code is sent to the storefront only when the wizard is completed; the wizard definition itself never contains the code. If the code is inactive, expired or used up, the button is not drawn on the storefront and diagnostics warn you.

Warning (WhatsApp): With The store WhatsApp number selected, if no WhatsApp floating button is defined in the theme settings, the button is not drawn on the storefront and diagnostics warn that the store WhatsApp number is not defined.

Video step (full screen, borderless)

To ask a question with a video, pick a video with Media → Pick from gallery in the step's General tab and set Presentation → Full-screen video. The video fills the window edge to edge; the options sit on top of the video as semi-transparent chips.

Our recommendations:

RecommendationWhy?
Shoot vertical (9:16)The window and the mobile sheet are vertical; a horizontal video is cropped at the sides.
Keep it under 30 secondsCustomers want to answer without waiting; long videos increase drop-off.
Upload MP4The storefront only plays MP4 files from your gallery (no YouTube/Vimeo).
Have a poster (cover image)The cover shows until the video loads. For a video without a cover image in the gallery, diagnostics tell you the video has no poster.
Write, don't only say, the important informationThe video starts muted; the customer can turn the sound on with the sound button.
  • The video starts on its own, muted; you can change this with Autoplay, Loop and Start muted.
  • An Info screen has a Continue when the video ends option.
  • On mobile the video step opens full screen.
  • For visitors who prefer reduced motion (an operating-system setting), the video does not play on its own.

Tip: To show a different video depending on the answer, set up a separate video step per branch and point each option's When selected, go to at its step (the Video wizard template is built this way).

The Contact details step asks for the customer's name, email or phone:

FieldOptions
Full name fieldOn / off
Email / PhoneOff, Optional, Required
Consent textThe text the customer must accept when sharing information. Cannot be left empty.
Marketing permission boxWhen on, the customer sees an "I would like to hear about campaigns and offers" checkbox.
  • If the customer shares any information, ticking the consent box is mandatory; they cannot continue without it.
  • Shared details are only visible in the wizard's Responses tab and in the CSV export. The exact consent text at that moment is stored with the response.
  • A customer who ticks the marketing permission box and gives an email is added to your Marketing → Subscribers list with the source "Product wizard"; the box's on-screen text is stored as the consent text. If double opt-in is on in your store, the customer receives a confirmation email and the record stays Pending confirmation until the link is clicked. An address that is already an Active subscriber is left unchanged; an unsubscribed or no-consent record is updated with the new consent. Details: Subscribers: Marketing Consent and Double Opt-in.
  • Names, emails, phone numbers and free-text answers are never written to analytics events.

Warning: Write the consent text in line with your own privacy notice (KVKK/GDPR). Example: "I agree that the information I share will be processed for recommendations and contact."

Wizard settings

When no step is selected (or when you click Wizard settings), the right panel shows four tabs:

TabSettings
GeneralStart step, Default result, Back button, Progress bar, Step counter, Motivation badges ("Almost done", "One step to go", "Last step"), Auto-advance on single choice, Resume window (minutes)
LookAccent color (or Use the store primary color), Corner radius, Option style (Outlined, Filled, Elevated), Header bar text, Header bar image
VariablesScore buckets such as a personality test (see above)
ResultsResult rules: tried from top to bottom when the flow ends; if none matches, the Default result

Tip: The step counter and the badges are calculated from the longest remaining path; the total never increases as the customer advances and the "Last step" badge never misleads them.

Diagnostics: error, warning, info

The strip under the preview and the coloured counts in the step list show diagnostics. Click the strip to open the list; clicking an item selects the related step.

LevelMeaningExamples
ErrorThe wizard cannot be published as it is.No start step · a transition goes to a deleted step · steps form a loop · some paths reach no result · a question without options · a contact step with empty consent text · an effect with 0 points
WarningIt can be published, but review it.Target with no category/tag selected · deleted product or category · empty product pool · no WhatsApp number · inactive coupon · a step no path reaches · an icon outside the icon set
InfoGood to know.Option targets are ignored in multiple choice · the video has no poster

With an error, Publish is disabled and shows "N errors · show" instead. With warnings, clicking Publish opens Publish with warnings? listing the first warnings; continue with Publish anyway.

Test (simulator)

The Test button in the top bar opens a drawer on the right. It tries the draft with your real catalogue; unsaved changes are included, and no customer record or analytics event is written.

  1. At the top choose Device (Desktop/Mobile) and Customer (Guest/Member) — if your rules look at these, the result changes.
  2. Pick the answer at each step and click Continue. The Path taken list says why each step was reached: "the target step of the “Flavour” answer", "rule 2 of the step matched", "the next step in the list"…
  3. At the result you see the recommended products, match percentage, score breakdown ("+3 Floral · +2 Night"), applied filters and result notes.
  4. Show in preview shows the same result in the storefront preview in the centre.

Tip: If you change the draft after answering and the answers no longer fit, the warning The answers no longer fit the draft appears; continue with Continue with the answers that fit.

Publishing

  1. Make sure no Error is left in diagnostics.
  2. Click Publish (Publish anyway if there are warnings).
  3. You see "Wizard published (version N)". The storefront shows the new version within a few minutes.

Changes you make after publishing stay in the draft; to send them to the storefront, click Publish changes.
