Conditional Block Visibility (Time · Audience · Language)
You decide when, to whom and in which language a block appears; if the condition is not met, the block does not appear in the storefront at all.
Where to find: Theme Editor → select a block → the Visibility tab in the properties panel on the right Who it's for: Anyone tired of switching a campaign bar on manually at midnight, or who wants to show different content to customers and visitors In short: You decide when, to whom and in which language a block appears; if the condition is not met, the block does not appear in the storefront at all.
What is it for?
Until now the only way to show or hide a block was adding or deleting it by hand. You can now set four kinds of condition:
| Condition | Example use |
|---|---|
| Devices | "Do not show this large image on mobile." |
| Time range | "Open the discount bar on Friday at 00:00 and close it on Monday at 00:00." |
| Audience | "Show this sign-up invitation only to visitors who are not signed in." |
| Language | "Show this campaign card only on the Turkish site." |
The setting exists on every block — in the Visibility tab of the properties panel.
1. Devices
The oldest and simplest condition: Hide on Mobile, Hide on Tablet, Hide on Desktop. The block does not appear on the device whose switch you turn on.
2. Time range (scheduling)
| Field | What does it do? |
|---|---|
| Starts | The date and time the block starts appearing. Leave it empty for "immediately". |
| Ends | The date and time the block stops appearing. Leave it empty for "no end". |
| Time zone | Which time zone the times are interpreted in. The default is your store's time zone. |
The end must be after the start — otherwise you get the warning "End date must be after the start date."
This condition is also the way to schedule the announcement bar: give the promo bar block a time range and the campaign starts and ends by itself at midnight. You never have to toggle the bar by hand.
The time condition is applied on the server: an expired block is never sent to the visitor, so it does not flash even for an instant.
3. Audience
You choose who the block appears to:
| Option | Who sees it? |
|---|---|
| Everyone | The default; everyone. |
| Guests only (not signed in) | People who have not signed in. |
| Signed-in customers only | Customers signed into their account. |
| Specific customer groups | People in the customer groups you select (see Customer Groups — Overview). |
If you choose Specific customer groups but tick no group, the condition is ignored; the panel tells you: "This condition is ignored until at least one group is selected."
A small detail — a brief flash: the audience condition is evaluated in the visitor's browser. So for a visitor who does not match, the block may be visible for the first instant after the page opens (about a blink) and then disappear. The reason is that the content is present in the page for search engines. So do not use the audience condition for secret/sensitive content — it is ideal for marketing-level distinctions.
For content that must genuinely stay hidden, use the member-only page/pricing mechanisms rather than the audience condition.
4. Language
| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| All languages | The default. |
| Only selected languages | Appears only in the languages you tick. |
| Except selected languages | Appears in every language except the ones you tick. |
Selectable languages: Turkish (tr), English (en), German (de), French (fr), Arabic (ar), Russian (ru).
The panel notes: "Compared against the store's active language."
If you pick a mode but tick no language, the condition is ignored.
How do you spot a "hidden block" in the editor?
When you give a block a condition it does not disappear in the editor — otherwise you could not edit it. Instead it is marked visually:
- The block gets a dashed frame,
- A badge appears on it.
The badge can say:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Hidden right now | The conditions are not met at the moment; it is not visible in the storefront. |
| Conditional visibility | The block has a condition (audience/language, etc.). |
| Hidden until … | The schedule has not started. |
| Ended on … | The time range is over. |
| Visible until … | Visible now, with an end date. |
| Only in … / Hidden in … | There is a language condition. |
The badges refresh themselves; when a scheduling boundary passes, the editor updates within seconds.
Step by step: a weekend campaign bar
- Theme Editor → home page → select the announcement/promo bar block.
- Visibility tab → Time range.
- Starts = Friday 00:00, Ends = Monday 00:00.
- Confirm the Time zone is your store's time zone.
- Optionally set Audience = Guests only (not signed in) — so your registered customers are not bothered by the bar.
- Save → Publish. You have nothing to do on Friday night.
Frequently asked questions
The block is in the editor but not in the storefront. It is probably hidden by a condition. Select the block and look at the Visibility tab; the badge tells you which condition is blocking it.
I set a time range but the block is still visible. Check the time zone; times are interpreted in the store's time zone. Also remember to publish the template.
A block with an audience condition flashes and disappears. That is expected (see the "brief flash" note above). Time and language conditions have no such behaviour; they are applied on the server.
How do the conditions interact? They all apply together (AND logic): the block appears only when all conditions are met.
Are my old templates affected? No. Blocks with no conditions appear to everyone, all the time, as before.
Can I use this to hide a product price per group? Do not. This setting is a display condition, not security. Use price lists and customer groups for group-specific pricing.
