Social Feed Keys: Instagram Token, YouTube, Google Reviews

Of the three sources only YouTube works without a key; Instagram needs an access token and Google Reviews needs an API key. This page walks through…

Where to find it: Left menu → Integrations → Social Media section (Instagram Feed · YouTube Feed · Google Reviews) Who is it for: Anyone who wants the social feed blocks in the theme editor to show real content but meets terms like "token", "API key" or "Place ID" for the first time In short: Of the three sources only YouTube works without a key; Instagram needs an access token and Google Reviews needs an API key. This page walks through each one screen by screen. For the blocks themselves see Social Feed Blocks: Instagram, YouTube, Google Reviews.

Before you start

Why is a token needed? Instagram and Google hand out your account's data only when "asked on your behalf". A token or key is the digital way of saying "this request is mine". Treyza stores these keys encrypted, never sends them to the storefront and caches the content on its own server for 30 minutes; the visitor's browser never talks to Instagram, YouTube or Google.

Is there a way without a token? The table summarises what each source requires.

SourceKey required?Why
YouTube FeedNoYouTube publishes a public RSS feed for every channel and playlist (latest 15 videos). Treyza reads it; there is no quota either. An API key is optional.
Instagram FeedYes (long-lived access token)Instagram has no public data endpoint; the old "Basic Display API" shut down in December 2024. Scraping the profile page is both blocked and against the terms of use. The only legitimate route is the Graph API with a token.
Google ReviewsYes (Places API key)Google serves business reviews only through the Places API. Creating a key takes 5 minutes and the monthly free credit covers a store's usage many times over.

Tip: After entering the keys on the Integrations page press Test Connection. On failure the message tells you which step is missing (invalid token, API not enabled, wrong Place ID etc.).

YouTube

  1. Find your channel identifier. Any one of these is enough:
    • @handle: if your channel address is youtube.com/@mystore, enter @mystore. This is the easiest.
    • Channel ID: YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Advanced settings shows the 24-character id starting with UC.
    • Playlist ID: to show one list only, open the list and copy the list= value from the address bar (starts with PL…).
  2. Open Integrations → Social Media → YouTube Feed; paste into Channel ID or @handle (or Playlist ID). Leave the API key field empty.
  3. Test Connection → you should see "… (RSS, anahtarsız)" (the message appears in Turkish: "RSS, no key"), then enable the integration.

Without a key Treyza reads YouTube's public RSS feed: at most 15 videos with cover image, title and date. The block shows at most 12 videos, so the limit is not noticeable in practice.

Optional: when is an API key needed?

Only if you want to list videos older than the latest 15 (RSS returns only those) or want extra details such as the channel's custom URL. To create a key:

  1. console.cloud.google.com → new project (e.g. "Store Front").
  2. APIs & Services → Library → "YouTube Data API v3" → Enable.
  3. Credentials → Create credentials → API key. Copy the key.
  4. Restrict the key: API restrictions → only "YouTube Data API v3". No application restriction is needed (requests come from the Treyza server).
  5. Paste it into the YouTube Data API v3 Key field; the channel/playlist fields stay as they are.

Quota: 10,000 units per day; Treyza spends 2 units per channel + list query and caches the result for 30 minutes.

Instagram

Prerequisites

  • Your Instagram account must be professional (Business or Creator). In the Instagram app: Settings → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account, free of charge. Personal accounts cannot access the Graph API.
  • A Meta developer account (opened with your Facebook account, free). Linking a Facebook Page is not required; the "Instagram login" method is used.

Step by step: generating a long-lived token

  1. developers.facebook.com/apps → Create app.
    • When asked for a use case choose "Other" → app type "Business". Use your store name as the app name.
  2. In the app dashboard Add product → Instagram → Set up.
  3. From the left menu open Instagram → API setup with Instagram login.
  4. Step 1 – Add Instagram account: click "Add account", sign in to your Instagram account and approve the permissions. Once the account is listed, its Instagram user ID (a long number made of digits only, e.g. 17841400123456789) appears next to it. Write this id down.
  5. Step 2 – Generate token: click Generate token on the account's row; sign in again in the popup and approve. The long text shown (starts with IGAA…) is your long-lived access token; tick "I understand" and copy it.
    • The token is valid for 60 days. Treyza renews it automatically once it is older than 30 days; you do not need to do anything.
  6. In Treyza, Integrations → Social Media → Instagram Feed:
    • paste the token into Long-lived access token,
    • paste the digits from step 4 into Instagram user ID,
    • optionally enter https://www.instagram.com/username as Profile link (if empty it is built from your username).
  7. Test Connection → @username should appear. Then enable.

ℹThe app can stay in "development mode". Because you only show your own account's data on your own store, Meta's App Review is not required; development mode is enough for this use.

Common mistakes

  • Pasting the "App ID" or "App Secret" instead of the token. The token is a very long text starting with IGAA….
  • Typing the username instead of the user id. The field accepts digits only.
  • Trying to generate a token with a personal (non-professional) account: the "Add account" step fails.
  • Changing your Instagram password or deleting the app invalidates the token. The block keeps the last successful content for 24 hours and then disappears; generate a new token and paste it into the same field.

When is the token renewed, what do I do?

Nothing. Treyza refreshes the saved token itself through Instagram's refresh endpoint once it is older than 24 hours and 30 days have passed; the new token is stored encrypted again. If the refresh fails (app deleted, account closed) the Connection status line in the block settings turns amber and points you to this page.

Google Reviews

Step by step: API key

  1. console.cloud.google.com → pick a project or create a new one. (You can reuse the YouTube project.)
  2. If no billing account is linked, link one under Billing. It is mandatory for the Places API; Google grants a free monthly credit and a store's query every 30 minutes stays far below it.
  3. APIs & Services → Library → "Places API (New)" → Enable. (Pick the new one, not the legacy Places API without "(New)" in its name.)
  4. Credentials → Create credentials → API key → copy.
  5. Restrict: API restrictions → only "Places API (New)". Do not add an application restriction (the request comes from the Treyza server, not the browser).

Step by step: Place ID

  1. Open the Place ID finder.
  2. Type your business's Google Maps name in the search box above the map and pick it from the list.
  3. Copy the Place ID (starts with ChIJ…) from the info bubble.

My business does not show up. Your Google Business Profile must be verified; a Place ID is not generated before verification completes.

Entering it in Treyza

Integrations → Social Media → Google Reviews: API key, Place ID and Review language (Turkish / English — Google translates reviews into it). Test Connection should show the business name; then enable.

Limits: Google returns at most 5 reviews per business and picks them in its own "most relevant" order; the rating and total review count come in full. Hiding a specific review is not possible through the Places API.

Frequently asked questions

I entered the keys but the block is still missing on the storefront. Is the integration enabled? Saving alone is not enough; the switch at the top of the card must be on. After enabling, the storefront updates within 5 minutes at most.

Can I use one key in several stores? Yes; integrations are per store, you enter the same key in each store separately.

Who can see my key? Only you, at the moment you enter it. After saving it is shown masked (••••1234) in the panel, stored encrypted and never sent to the storefront.

I want to show more than 15 YouTube videos. The block shows at most 12 videos, so the RSS limit is not felt. If you still need a deeper list, enter the optional API key.
